"Klusa Daba" ambient music fest 26-27.08.06, Riga

Culture and art project Noass is experienced in organizing various local and international art festivals. The team of Noass promotes and popularizes contemporary art by presenting a wide range of modern art projects. Previously there has been successful implementation of this aim, which shows the ability of Noass to realize and support creative ideas.

For several years the Noass team has been successful in carrying out one of its projects “Ūdensgabali” (Waterpieces). The central aim of this project is to create a representative collection of Latvian video art and to actualize video art in Latvia. Owing to the coherent and creative management, the Noass team proves its ability to organize several concurrent projects of different scale.

With the intention to broaden its horizon and scope of activities, to highlight new aspects in video art, as well as to introduce a wider audience to a promising upcoming music style, "Noass" organizes ambient music and video art festival "Klusa Daba". It is an independent ambient music and video art project, which will be partly included into the annual art festival “Ūdensgabali”. Ambient music performers and video artists will create interaction of these two art forms. Ambient music style intensifies the perception of video art. The festival will give the opportunity to popularize ambient music and to take Latvian audience on a voyage of discovery.

The "Klusa Daba" festival was originally organized by s/o “DABA” and for three years has been held in Ventspils.

This year the festival will take place in Riga at AB Dambis (AB pier) on the river Daugava, across Riga Old Town. The event is planned to be round the clock, opening at 12:00 AM. There will be special day and night programs. The venue of the festival will make it possible for more people to visit it. This outdoor happening will emphasize the connection of ambient music and nature, showing calm artistic environment in contrast to urban rhythm and hasty everyday life. Urban scenery and the river Daugava is a natural setting, which contributes to a special atmosphere and meets the goal of the festival – to create a place for relaxation in the heart of the city.

Five stages will be set up, equipped with audio and video systems, and video screens. The program consists of live ambient music performances. Installations will contain elements representing ambient music. Stage design, which will be provided by the students of Latvian Academy of Arts, will emphasize the artistic environment of the festival and create a harmonizing ambiance.

Video art works with the theme of “The city rhythm and speed” will be screened during the night program. Dynamics of video art works will highlight the atmospheric sounding of ambient music. A common concept of audio and video art works will be created by collaboration of audio and video artists.
